Another gold leaf experiment. I first started with a charcoal sketch and then I sprayed it down with fixative and added gold leaf. My experience with gold leaf is that it is very difficult to apply, so I stick with geometric shapes. Then I saw this Greg Ruth post on Muddy Colors recently where he mentioned a technique of applying powdered gold leaf and cumin. I thought I'd try it out with this piece. I also tried one additional picture where the light reflection was more dynamic. I was not planning on doing this when the weekend started, but I'm happy with the result.
Over the past few weeks, I embarked on an adaptation of Dream of a Ridiculous Man by Dostoyevsky. I'm hoping to share the initial final pages soon.
Same model here. I really enjoy doing profile drawings, then I can just really sculpt that one delicate contour line of the face. At its best, the line is dancing around the features.
Another watercolor. This pencil comp was sitting in a watercolor pad for months until I felt comfortable to work on it. When I'm better, I'd like to try this one again. The concept of the piece is based on a Jeffrey Jones' piece called Erebus Odora.
