I normally don't have titles for work, but in my head, I called this one, "At the end of all things"
Ever since I first read the short story, Ylla from the Martian Chronicles, I have loved the story. Maybe I will do some drawings one day based on it. For now, here is a sketch of Ylla.
I don't write much on this blog. In my first experience keeping an art blog, an old wordpress (which can still be found online), the blog was short on actual art and was primarily poorly thought out and immature ramblings that I would spew out from time to time when I was discouraged. But I did want to note that I've had several notes over the years from teachers who have asked to use my images of All Summer in a Day for their classrooms. After all the time drawing, it's the biggest honor I've received to know that my work is still seen and appreciated, especially connected to such a beautiful and timeless story. It's typically noted in the requests that students have a hard time visualizing the story and eager and thoughtful teachers think that the images will serve as an aid. I'm grateful for the small contribution I've been able to make to these students. I hope that with the bombardment of images and messages that children grow up with today that such a simple story can still serve as a reminder of how important empathy and storytelling can be.
