And here's that two page spread in color! I might do some minor revisions, but this is probably close to what the final colored page will look like. This page was planned to be mostly black and white, so it was easier to pull off.

My final two page spread. This shows man's first move to Venus, the never ending rain, and the children's lingering memories of the Sun.
Most of my coloring is done, and here are a couple of the final inks. I think my inking has gotten better and I can't wait for the next chance to ink something. The children lock Margot in a closet, where she bangs on the other side. The children all run back to the classroom. The children return just in time. They clamber about the window and see the Sun begin to peek out. Posted a couple new inked pages for my graphic novel. It's been so much fun, though it's taken a lot of time and energy as well. So there has been much frustration and unfun times as well. But at the same time, I've rarely felt so rewarded by a project. I'm going to start plunging into color now!
Sadly after this, I think it's time that I pursue another non-art job to sustain my art pursuits. Maybe I'll find my way into an art position one day, but probably not in the very near future, so I must prepare myself like the adult I ought to be by this age. Here are a few inked pages. Almost done with inking. So I could share all of the pages, but you can get the bare bones of the story from these ones.
It's been a while since I wrote about how my project is going. But I was cruising along rather happily until last week when I took a good look at my pages again, opened up my graphic novels from the library, and realized that my work wasn't looking so good. I've gone back and redone a few pages, trying to get better compositions while also trying to get some more interesting page layouts. In particular, I was looking at Renae de Liz's pages, and found her layouts to be so imaginative and her drawing so lively. I think right now, this project is still going in a good direction, but there are a few things I might change if I were to do it over. For one, I think I honored the source material to the point where I didn't leave out a single scene. I probably could have told the basic story, while maybe leaving out a couple of the scenes that I drew. I also know that I need to work harder at costuming my characters and fleshing out my interior architectures. There's always more work to be done. But this might be the first time where I can step back and be proud of a project I worked on. Until the week after it's done and I realize that it's terrible.... |
